OPIOIDS IN 2018: Tools for Primary Care Providers to Stem the Epidemic

This one day course will focus on skills and knowledge to use directly in your practice to manage acute and chronic pain using new guidelines and manage challenging situations relating to opioids. The day will have a special focus on the practical use of buprenorphine. Through review of guidelines and workshops you will learn to become a bupren-orphine prescriber which will enable you to play an important part in helping your patients and managing the opioid epidemic.
OVERALL LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this conference, participants should be able to:
– Discuss the impact of opioids from patient and system perspectives;
– Develop strategies for management of opioid addiction including adolescent and geriatric patients;
– Implement communication techniques in their practice to optimize treatment of patients taking opioids.
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development. You may claim a maximum of 6.50 hours (credits are automatically calculated).
This Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development for up to 6.50 Mainpro+ credits.
